also, does it give any power boost?
I think Ford put out the same numbers for the cars with and w/o the shaker but that doesn't make much sense to me because better air flow should increase HP.

Alot would need to go into validating if the shaker actually adds power that is just not possible to test.

One thing that 'can' be tested easily is to put 2 cars in a wind tunnel and validate that air can actually be pushed into the shaker scoop as the car accelerates. Many cars with scoops (the mid 60's GTO for example) put the scoop in a dead spot where no increase in air flow is acheived.

The second thing to test if the car has acheived anymore HP is of course to run it at the track. Run the same car with the same intake setup with a closed hood for several runs and then average it out, then install the new hood and shaker assemble, run several runs, and then average out. This will validate if there is any gain at all.

What you can't measure is actual HP gains as measured through the standard practice of dynoing the motor or the car. In the first case, the motor sits on the stand and produces a power band that is measured. In the second case, the motor sits in the car, which sits on a stand attached to rollers and a power band is measured. In neither instance is there physical motion involved and it is impossible to simulate the motion of air properly over the hood the car to approximaite reality to measure power on the chasiss dyno.

So, since Ford uses the same intake for shaker and non-shaker cars, the advertised HP of the motor is equal.

As for the question of "so does it provide a power boost" who cares!!!! It's a shaker...the coolest part about a shaker is sitting at idle revving the motor and watching it shake from the driver seat. Once you take of and start driving, it doesn't shake

See...now you got me all randy to buy, cut and install one just so I can sit in my garage at lunchtime and rev my engine to watch it shake!

I was surfing around and found this. I thought of you. This should be a great guide to put that shaker on your car. Soaring, might want to add this to the FAQ. http://www.mustangmonthly.com/howto/30058/
