I was in the junkyard browsing around recently and found a ford truck that had a 4 barrel 289 or 302. I ran the numbers on the intake and it says that it is a 65 289 intake. If this is a real 4 barrel motor, are the heads going to be better that 2bbl or are they worth fooling with getting?

Also, I've heard that some of the explorer's had GT40 heads on them. Is this true and if so, how much better are they than the stock 289 or 302 heads?

 

the gt-40 will flow better but also have bigger combustion chamber so compression goes down so i would mill them down just a tad but you will pick up some power

 

Sounds like someone tried to hop up their pick up by swapping on an old 4V intake.
Sure, grab the parts if the price is right. But I would not expect anything special under that intake.

 

I'm definatley getting the intake. I can probably get the parts for all free but I don't know it the heads are even worth fooling with.

Explorers had GT-40P's
