Default Non-locking seatbacks

Does not having the driver and passenger seatbacks lock in the back position pose any dangers? You'd think that you'd want the seat to lock and be solid. I guess if you're in a wreck you'd only get the weight of the seatback pushing against you into the seatbelt, the least of your concerns. Has anyone modified a lock mechanism for their early mustangs (pre '66)?
