Or better yet instead of buying a new mustang, buy an older one and drop a stroker in it. The LS1 guys are doin that, droppin LS2s and LS7s in thier 4th gen F bodys and going faster than humans should on city streets. So take a 5.4 and stroke it ato around a 6.0 with 4 valve heads and the blower.. Drop it in a stripped down GT that doesnt have power everything and guess what.. that thing will scoot...

Build something you can afford.. sure its nice to dream about the GT, Shelby, and ZO6s.. that is the insipration. persperation yields much more usefull devices... Just dont go getting 30+ vehicles with plans of dropping larger V8s in all of them... its just plain silly...lol

the new shelby wont be a collector anything. they are gonna make to many and they arent as great as first thought. they are not even in the same zip code as the older shelbys.
the new z06 is many times better then the new shelby, its basically a super car (as much as i hate to say it).
if the shelbys were selling for msrp then it would be a good buy, the only thing holding them back is their rods.

if you wanna go fast for cheap buy a used fox body and go from there. if you have some more money buy a 03/04 cobra.

With some slight modifications to stock the gt500 will be a vette killer. everyone compares the vette stock to stock with the gt500, but they arent in the same class. (until mods)
That's the point, they aren't in the same class without mods to the Shelby. If you could get a Shelby for MSRP that would be one thing, but I haven't seen one for less than $52K and that one was sold before it hit the lot through a lottery system. A Vette Z06 for $64k has a much better power to weight ratio, power to torque ratio, and handling that is light years ahead of the Shelby. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of the Shelby, but only at the MSRP. It's kinda' like Ford advertising the Ford GT for $100k, and using that as a comparison to Ferraris, Porsche Carreras, Lamborghinis, etc. and there exhorbitant price tags. Yeah the Ford GT was almost as nice of a car, but it really wasn't for $100k. Those cars sold for $200k+, just like those mroe expensive cars that it was nearly as good as "for half the price". One final note is I saw a couple of 06 Saleen Mustangs with turbos at the Ford dealer in Roseville, CA for $45K. Over 400 hp and 400 ft-lbs of torque. Not quite Shelby numbers, but they were actually for sale, two to choose from, and probably could have been had for less than the sticker price. I think they also had a used 05 Saleen with 5,000 miles for $37k.
