color code and torque question
I have the same problem someone had not too long ago. The part of the oil dipstick tube that goes in the block broke off. I tried doing what the other person tried but this sucker is really stuck. As a last ditch effort, can I drill it out? I plan on dropping the oil pan and cleaning it anyways. One last thing, does anyone one know what the torque is on the bolts for the oil pan and transmission oil pan? Should I use a gasket adhesive stuff with the cork gasket too? Sorry about all the questions. [sm=thanx.gif] Scott
Once you get the pan off, you will probably be able to put some vice grips on the dipstick and pull it out from underneath. Don't use cork gaskets on the oil pan. Use the rubber one, and have the groove on the pan really clean. Use some RTV blue or Permatex black on the groove side of the pan, and stick the gasket on the pan. Let it sit for awhile to dry with the bolts in the holes of the pan so it is aligned properly. That way, it will go back on the block straight. I just get the bolts snug with my ratchet. I have never used a torque wrench on the pan bolts. Just don't over tighten it.
Do I have to remove the transmissoin cooling lines to remove the oil pan? (It's a 68 coupe 302) If so (and this is probably a really dumb question) do I have to drain the radiator before I remove the lines? Pending I don't want a garage floor full or radiator fluid.
