engine balancing (external)

So are you saying if you build the internals to handle a 50oz balance??? I took this from their FAQ section of the web page and that's how all the confusion started
5. Do I need internal or external balancing?
Whether application is internal, external, 28 or 50 oz., balance depends on the original factory requirements. It is possible to build a combination with the balance different than how it came from the factory. With the range of parts available through CHP many variations are possible. So it is important that you know your options before making any component purchases.

Depends on how CHP builds the 331. If they build it with a 50oz. balance, that's what you need to follow. Ask them how it's balanced. You may even have an option from them.

Okay here's the plan. After the boss and I move I'm getting the CHP 331 short block, comes with performer heads(but I don't know what kind of block they use) performer intake, 600 cfm carb. Keeping the a/c and p/s on there switching to a 1 wire alt. pertronix II dizzy and coil if any of that stuff matters. I suppose I really havn't thought of what flexplate i'll be using. I am planning on rebuilding the c4, maybe adding a shift kit, and a "better" tourqe converter, but if I keep it stock would I still be using the 28oz?
Ey dos mio my head hurts!!

it doesnt matter what year block, crank, heads, rods, or anything else is from. as long as a 28oz balancer is used with a 28oz flywheel or a 50oz balancer with a 50oz flywheel is used your fine. you just cant mix and match the two. bolt holes for the flywheel are the same for sure, as are balancer holes (i believe)

so let me see if I'm understanding any of this, if you have a 50oz flywheel you'd need a 50oz balancer and the same for 28oz...

i disagree with that. i used a later model roller block in my stang II and had to use the mustang II flexplate (smaller outside diameter)
while i DID get it rebalanced to 50oz it was because i used the 50oz harmonic balancer cause it was the only one i had. the flywheels will bolt up though
i will edit this and say there may be a weight offset difference in the crank but i am not aware of any
