If you want to be mad at some entity, then I think a vast majority of you are angry at the wrong bunch.

Over 50% of the cost of a gallon of gasoline is TAXES!!!! Federal, state and local taxes.

Being from Florida, I would have to say that a VAST majority of the people here are firmly against drilling off the coast but still bitch about the price at the pump.

People have all these hang-up's about the "what-if" oil spill off of one of those platforms, but have no compunction about putting their stamp of approval on thousands of tankers coming into the ports every year. Personally, I trust a pipeline to carry the crude much more than I trust a moving supertanker. If the pipeline does spring a leak, they I have to believe they can shut it off pretty easily.

As far as alternative fuels go, that is all well and good but as long as oil is the mothers milk of capitalisim, it is not going tobe subplantedin any meaningful quantity enough toalter the market price of oil.

Bottom line for me is,if you are unhappy with the price of oil and areanti-drilling and/oragainst constructing new refineries then in addition to being a huge hypocrite you are just not very bright.

Correct me if Im wrong but people in Europe have less of a commute daily than Americans. Paddy, you drive 40-60 miles a week? I drive about that daily just going to school and back and I know others that drive that much just coming to school. Thereis no public bus, train, subway, trolly, taxi, etc. form of public transportation either to have an alternative. Walking is not an option for many, the nearest business from my house is 6 miles.

Ofcourse, if you live in a city its different. But comparing US prices to Europe prices is oranges to apples.
