I just bought my 64 1/2 on Earth Day, me and the wife had a little chuckle after we got home. She said "Leave it to you to buy a gas guzzling muscle car on Earth Day". My wife is totally a greenie, but she's not driving the car I am. I'll gladly keep putting gas in the tank as long as the Mustang will still run. I didn't buy the Mustang for gas mileage, I bought her because it just makes me happy.

My wife wants a hybrid so once we get that, having the mustang and the hybrid will equal each other out.

Just paid 3.17 for premium; North Idaho

edit: I thought we were comparing prices but just read some other theads ( and original post) and see it's deeper then that. I occasionally struggle withmixed emotions on my stang due in part to the dwindeling supplies of oil and global pollution. Not a fun topic [&:]

Fastbackford351 got it right.
The oil companys got the overhead of doing bussiness and there making a profit thats good for all of us.
Its the government whos making all the money no overhead, no taxes to pay on income.
If you want to change it VOTE and I don't mean for greenies or the Al Gore types
Kailua, Hawaii $3.35 for super and the highest taxes in the nation.

Correct me if Im wrong but people in Europe have less of a commute daily than Americans. Paddy, you drive 40-60 miles a week? I drive about that daily just going to school and back and I know others that drive that much just coming to school. Thereis no public bus, train, subway, trolly, taxi, etc. form of public transportation either to have an alternative. Walking is not an option for many, the nearest business from my house is 6 miles.

Ofcourse, if you live in a city its different. But comparing US prices to Europe prices is oranges to apples.
You are not wrong at all. The mass transportation systems in Europe and Japan are far superior to our lame system. We Americans are basically totally dependent on our cars for transportation. When I was stationed in Europe for many years, and in Japan for many more, it was rare that I drove my car very far. I rode the trains and buses just like everybody else. Not so much in Europe as in Japan though.
When I left Germany for the last time a few years back, the price of a liter of gas was about a dollar or do. That would make a gallon worth somewhere around 4 bux to 4.50 cents per gallon. That was when it was 1.96 here in the states. We are now setting at just at 3 bux a gallon, so you can figure that the Europeans are paying right at 8+ USD or so per gallon. That's 2+ USD per liter.
OK Paddy and others living in Europe. How much does a liter of regular gas cost you in Euros, and what is the exchange rate for USD from Euro today? I am assuming everyone understands that the exchange rate changes every day.

I do like mass transport and my daily commute(2 miles)I do by bicycle. The fact the dollar is very weakpushes the price up but it is 1.42-1.48 euros a litre (normal + premium) and the exchange rate is 1.36 (dollar to euros) and of cause there are 3.785l per US gallon so 1.42*1.36*3.785 so $7.30-7.62 a gallon is the range I pay. The extra taxes pay for the mass transport. Here in the Netherlands you also pay road tax based on the mass of the car and emission so for a Europe family car (think ford focus, vw golf, dodge calibur etc) you would pay around $1000-1500 a year in road tax also, luckily being a classic my stang is exempt!!

soaring is right the next big city over from me has buses but mostly the ones that dont own a car ride it and some of the hippie types too.i dislike the gas price but im stuck buying it or walking so i buy it and i will tell the day they ban gas. i rather drive my mustang or my 83 chevy 1ton over any compact i feel safer in them.besides why save a few dollars and end up crippled in a car crash

I just spent 3 years on a Naval base in Japan, and the mass transportation is the way to go.. IT was so much easier than driving anywhere,, You could hop a bus to a train to a subway or a taxi and get anywhere... I kind of miss it,, especially on those nights we go out on the town and then drive back home like a bunch of Dumb A$$e$..

I think the best way to beat it in the end is A. Vote, and B., get a cheap-economic car. My beater was 700 bucks and so far my record is 45.5 mpg.
