Default Replacing front marker lights on 1970 coupe

Just ordered and received a set of new front side marker lights for my 1970 mustang coupe. I ordered them from John's Mustang of of Texas...awesome customer service a speedy delivery. They were exactly what I needed...chrome bezel and all. The new plastic housing that the lens is glued to and that holds the lightbulb (blub and socket), has 2 holes for the screw/bolt to screw to. From there it bolts to a metal bracket, that supports the light in place behind the body.

However after taking things apart and getting ready to assemble the new fixtures on my car, I realized thenew plastic housing arenotthreaded inside the holes that the screwsshould go in.Both sets are the same way,soI'mpretty sure its not a mistake, or a mishap...is there any ideas for me on how I can use my factory, screws/boltsin this setup, withoutgluing them in place...I would like to restore these correctly so I can remove them if necessary...but do not really want to return theparts, becausethey are exactly what I need...just need a way to attach them. If anyone can help I would appreciate it...I can even send picturesof the parts and abit more explanation if needed.

Thanks,
Jason

It seems to me that the screws that came off of mine were those self tapping plastic screws. My wife won't let me work in the shop on Sundays, butI will look tomorrow morning whenI go down to the shop

Looking at a factory drawing of those light assemblys, Ford usedstamped nuts to a pair of shafts on the light assembly to hold it thru the body to a retainer. You may have already had areplacement type like you just got already on the car.

Possible. I bought the car last September. It would be that what I am looking at is not factory, but a replacement. The screw assemblies (I'm not sure the correct terminology are 1/2 screw, and 1/2 thread (where a nut would go on). So I would probably agree that they are described as a self tapping threads.

The self tapping screw portion thou is smaller in diameter then the holes in the replacement light assmebly...not too much smaller, but small enough not to be able to "tap" into anything. The lens is fixed to the housing...I'm thinking more and more that I probably can just glue the threads into the holes with industrial strenght adhesives...because there would be no need to remove them unless I'm replacing the light assemblies again.

Thanks for all the info...and assistance. Where could one find the factory drawings for the different assemblies for my car? I have the shop manuals, but didn't see it in there. Thanks again!

Get the 1970 Mustang Electrical Assembly Manual published by Jim Osborn Reproductions and available at most mail order stores (NPD fo one) for $16. Get the whole set (and I do not work for them).
