You'll never get E7 or even GT40 heads to provide the same performance for the same money as a set of AFR's. If you took GT40's and had a REAL port/valvejob done to get the same performance as say AFR 165's, you'd be out more than if you just got a set of 165's to begin with. If you want best performance, save up for some good heads, if you want something that'll run nice and aren't as concerned about how fast you are then some GT40's are a great way to go(which incidentally, can still make good power)

E7 heads have to be the worst flowing heads ever put on a mustang motor. When you replace them on the 87-95 motor with some nice aftermarket heads like AFR's you are looking at a gain of 50-100hp, then put in a decent camshaft the gains are huge.

actually the D8 heads are worse because port flow is identical to E7's yet the chambers are larger, and everyone says the E6SE heads are junk with the swirl style chambers

Wow, I didn't think heads could get worse than the E7 heads.

Quick question about the AFR 165 heads, are they the completely bolt on AFR's where you don't have to notch or anything else?

Sorry I meant change the pistons so the valve notch is in the right location, I guess my mind wandered off before I finished my question.

no you shouldnt have to with the AFR's. its the trick flow twisted wedge that changes the angles of the valves.

It depends on the year and the head you get, the 185's come with a 2.02 intake, and I think 86 stock bottom endswon't work without notching pistons. And E6's are HORRIBLE, with some stupid heart shaped chamber that shrouds half the valve, nasty 65cc chamber....
