A steering wheel question

Default A steering wheel question

I have a manual steering in my Stang and it has about 20 degrees of free play in it.
How do I take that out (if at all possible )? all bolts are tight no freedoms anywhere in the system.

I have that too. I just have not gotten around to tighening it up yet. 20deg isnot bad for a 40 year old steering system, but it is probably a loose gear mesh in your steering box. You can adjust that by tighting the adjustment screw on the top of the gear box. There will be a jam nut to keep in place that you will need to loosen first. Do not over tighten this screw. You will have problems turning if you do.

First check all your steering components to see if there is any slack. Then read the best information on the net about the Mustang steering system and steering box adjustment:
