Default Radiator: Plastic Reservoir bubbling: Overheating?

Hi!

I have the that plastic reservoir but I noticed it get's filled all the way to the top with coolant and bubbles excessively. Is this normal? The temp guage fluctuates from a little over halfto about 1/4.The Stangdoesnt seem to overheat but I guess everyone has their on opinion on what over heats means.

The Radiator does "suck" back the coolant from the reservoir though but I have to continue adding more coolant to it because (what I think) it spits it out of the top end of the reservoir.

Is the bubbling normal? If not what causes it?

I have a 65 Coupe with an electric fan that pulls about 2300 cfm's of air (starts at a very low temp now because I haveit setthat way). I alsohave a new 10 pound radiator cap,a new 3 row radiator, and a 180 degree thermostat (also new).

Please advice! Thanks guys!!

It sounds like aleaking head gasket.

Geesh... I hope thats not the case. If it where a leaking head gasket I should find water in the oil correct?

I'm pretty sure there was a post just a little while back with someone having the same issue, losing coolant and everything. Found it.

ORIGINAL: JMD

Make sure that if you do run it, your radiator cap pressure release works,,
This is a very good point.

Made me think of something else, if a vehicle has to be run with a coolant leak (internal or external) the odds of reaching the destination can usually be improved by loosening the radiator cap to the point where it will no longer hold pressure in the system. With zero pressure, the coolant will stay with you longer, but if the vehicle temp exceeds boiling point at atmospheric pressure, or there is somuch combustion gassesentering the system that the coolant will not stay in,all bets are off.

Thanks for the responses!!

It does not loose too much coolant... it just spits some out when the temp goes past half (reservoir bubbles). When the car is in idle and I leave it for an extend period of time the temp gauge stays at 1/4 and everything is cool. Its really weird. I forgot to mention that I recently changed the manifold and carberator from a 2 to a 4 barrel (both new) with no visable leak. I suspect maybe wrong installation of the gaskets put everything is fine. I did noticed that most of my problems occur when I test drive the car on the freeway ( i dontknow if this helps).

Any other ideas?
