timing is supposed to be at TDC or alittle advanced for power... right?

I have a little sputter also and I would like to try a spacer, but I dont have room under the hood[:@]

I have the same problem every now and again as you baxsom. I also believe i have too much carb for my 390(770cfm) so i will be changing it out over the winter and adding a 1-2in spacer.

BTW...what is the difference in the 1" spacer compared tot he 2" spacer. Also, would it be better off to get a plastic spacer for heat control or would it not matter on a street engine? Just curious...

The bigger the spacer the greater the effect. As far as sputters, coughs, hiccups etc when you crack the throttle rapidly, that's an accelerator pump tuning issue. Gotta mess with cams, squirters etc to get it right. Wideband O2 monitering helps a lot, I wish I had one

yeah i kinda figured that the biggest problem is that the pump is spraying too much fuel.
you have to mess with the cam, cam placment, squirter size etc
i was told that the 390cfm comes jetted smaller with a smaller shot off the acell pump to begin with so there would be less trial and error needed.
god i hate carbs. if this car wasnt all orignal and my father in law wasnt the original owner id convert to EFI
