A 460 is the exact same block as a 429. It will go into a 71-73 with no problem and all of the mounts and brackets from a 429 will fit.

OK, I was wondering if the 429CJ was the same block as the 460. But, they still weren't over 400 BWHP were they?

Dimensionally, they are the same. IIRC, the 429CJ was rated at about 370 HP. That was a conservative estimate as the Insurance companies were starting to crack down. With very little work, you could be well up into the 400's.

As I said above (I revised my reply to you), you're absolutely correct.

Go to any of the fastest musclecar lists and see how the small blocks compare. Out of the top 50, I think there are 4 small blocks included and they are no where near the top of the list. The highest ranking SB is the 71 Boss351 in about 25th place. The 62 Corvette 327 fulie placed in the mid-thirties. A 66 Shelby and a 64 289 Cobra ranked in the high fifties The rest were all big blocks.

I would stay with a small block. 460s are just to big.

And block to block the 327s are faster then the 396s. Small blocks rev faster.
Off the line the small block is over all faster. In the 1/4 the big block will over all win if you built the heck out of it. The big block can't hook up. The 289 Cobra would beat the 427 Cobra off the line. So block to block and on the street I vote for the small block.

Thanks, I know I am right. Your fun to play with and get you heated up over nothing.

So, now we have come down to "quickness" vs. raw horsepower muscle. I vote for quickness everytime, especially since we now have to take out a loan from the bank just to fill our gas tanks up.

This stuff cracks me up. I don't give a rats a$$ who is ahead thirty feet from the light. That's not the place to race. I may be wrong but all these years I thought that the winner was the guy who crossed the finish line first at the track. I don't think they give out prizes for the best thirty or sixty feet. Below are three different sites that list the fastest musclecars according to their "quickness" in the quarter mile. Maybe I'm missing something but I see way more big blocks than small blocks. I guess all three sites are nothing but BS.

And Horseshoeing, I'm not upset with you. I'm just a bit frustrated that an adult would go out of his way to try and **** off another forum member. But then again, it shouldn't surprise me as you seem to be proud of the fact that you were kicked out of the Nissan club. Cheers.

Ok, I am not trying to make anyone mad. I am just talking about motors. I know not everyone likes a 289. I am ok with that.

In a road race they will sometimes use a V6 and they win too. Big does not mean better. More horses does not mean that you will win.
