351w heads
Now that my engine has been finished for awhile, I want more performance out of it. I know I am getting new gears very soon, but I am also looking into some better cylinder heads. Currently I have the Performer Rpm package with edelbrock rpm heads. The motor runs strong, but I think it can run a whole lot better with bigger heads. I was thinking of buying some 205 afr heads or victor jrs, but leaving the rpm cam and rpm intake on. Will this be a good idea? If it is possible to go with either of these heads how much additional horsepower would i get over the rpm heads?
205s if you are running a 351 with no extra displacement is probably a little big. You might be happier with something in the 185-190 range. You do not want to go too big or you will loose your air velocity. I put 205s on my 383. The intake that everyone ravs about is the Edelbrock Air Gap. It is pretty nice but a little talk. I have one on my new motor, but will not know until tomorrow if the hood will clear it. Horsepower abovewhat you are doing now is going to be hard to guess at. Any idea what you are doing now? I would guess upper 300s or low 400swould be easy enough with AFRs, a good intake, and the right cam but most of that is going to depend on how high you want to spin it and where your power band is. I hope to get 450 at 6000 in my 383 if that helps.
