c4 kickdown
I have a 66 with a 289 and a c-4. I never noticed until the other day that the kickdown is not installed. From what I've read, my accelerator pedal is supposed to have a bracket in the engine bay that links the throttle to the trans, but that bracket isn't there. I have a holley 390 4v carb and a B&M z-gate shifter. Will the Lokar kickdown cable work with my setup? Thanks in advance.[/align]
Welcome to the forum. Sorry can't help on this maybe on something else. I am sure you will find out what you need, this forum has been the best for information for me. Post some pics of your ride , we all would love to see it .
I've got a lokar set up on a c4. Need these to parts - works fine. May want to check EBAYhave better prices in some cases. Easy install. I really like have the kickdown kick in may a lot of difference when you need to kick into passing gear.

I've got a 66, so I'll try my best to explain. your gas pedal pushes on a rod, that pivots, and pulls the carb linkage. There's an extension at the bottom of that rod. As you accellerate, the rod pulls the carb linkage, and also pulls the kickdown linkage. The kickdown is adjusted at full throttle. eng does not need to be running. From underthe car, push the accellerator rod to the forward most position. This should be full wide open throttle on the carb. Just prior to that point is where the kickdown should trigger. The kickdown on the C4 has a sprint actuated level that only moves 3/8 in. you want that lever to be actuated at wide open throttle for a base line setting. You can adjust the kickdown to trigger earlier by simply shortening or lengthening the kickdown cable between the accellerator rod and the tranny.
On my 1979 Mercury Capri which I installed a 351w in I put a kick-down rod on it (throttle to tranny) that I found off a 1979 LTD. It was a aluminum rod about 3 feet long bend to clear the firewall/engine/tranny.
My 1970 Mustang 302/c-4 does not have a kick-down cable or rod. When I drive it more often I will let you know what I do for a set-up.
You can buy the LOKAR cable kit or go to a junk yard and find a rod or do something creative as long as it pulls the kick-down lever on the tranny when you accelerate over half throttle it can be any one of the two..
