Tyler, have you actually heard of anyone having valve guide issues with the Twisted Wedge heads? I don't see how the altered valve angle is going to cause excessive valve guide wear as long as the springs are rotated with them, which they would have to be, and as long as the pushrod length is correct. The only reason I'd see for premature valve guide failure would be incorrect pushrod length from someone trying to use stock-length pushrods.

I'm not saying the problem doesn't exist, just that it shouldn't from an engineering standpoint, and I've never heard of anyone complain about it before now.

That said, the Edelbrocks are a high quality, proven alternative. You can't run quite as much lift, but Kalli doesn't need to on his engine.

I'll definetly consider both. I'd prefer the tw as they have the larger valve (and still no clearance issues). I never heard of premature wear on the TFs as well, but I'm only researching this for 2-4 weeks. The valves are completely relocated, which explains the different pushrod. But if the new geometry fits (which they should) I don't see either how I would put stress on the guides ?! do you have any info on this, reference?

i've actually heard of problems with trick flows, theres a shop around here that won't even touch the heads because of it, nor do they recommend them. personally i'd go with edelbrocks, or if you wanna be like everyone else get AFR but.. theres plenty of other good alternatives and other small companies that make great heads that are often overlooked.

btw, stay away from patriots.

here you could use these, i saw them at a flea market this weekend. probably the only set i will ever see in my whole life. if i had the money, i would have bought them in a heartbeat.







if i remember correctly edelbrock has a new set of SBF heads that are supposed to be a nice improvement over their old design. if your shooting for used heads, honestly your never going to notice the difference between used afr's, edelbrocks, trick flows, etc. you*may* notice a difference if you had one set and went to another, but going from stock 289 heads to a set of aftermarket heads your going to have awesome gains no matter what you end up with

nah to be honest I was looking at about 10% of that. Was hoping to ****** some performer rpms used for lets say 600 quid which will probably another 200$ shipping.
i could never go cast iron as 2 cast iron heads are 100lbs .... (shipping costs are insane then, would have to use a forwarding agent. too much hassle)

The point was that it's a complete Tunnel Ram head/intake set!!!!!!!! Freaking awesome. I've never actually seen a whole set for sale, let alone in good condition. Someone buy it for me! lol.

 

I had also heard that at least the early twisted wedge heads had durability issues (coming straight from the proprietor of the shop that I've sent all my engine machining work out to). That was about ten years ago, so TF may have fixed things since. But I'm still wary, so the Edelbrocks seem to be the better option.
