Hi Newbie68,

I think you got a good deal on a nice Coupe.

.... left door replaced also, as due to the AF it is possibly a ,Mexican Built car....

What makes you think it was Mexican built? What is the AF you refered to?

U.S. built '68's had the VIN on a plate rivoted to the dash and visible through the windshield.

As far as the rims go, in '68 the rims were the same, except the center section was painted argent grey, instead of being chromed. The trim rings are the same on both rims The chrome looks better IMHO!

When Marti called this morning he informed me the A designator was for cars built in Mexico City... I verified this online, but it was saying based on the numbers my xar was built in 1961. We know thats not the case. So I have done some more investigating and found that if I input an 8 where the A is I get a local 1968 Coupe with 21 yr old plates. HMMMM. Betting that along with the left fender and door replacement someone messed up and mistook or mispoke the 8 for an A. Now I need to remove the right fender to search for the Holy Grail. Hopefully I will find that last VIN.

Hopefully the VIN is on the right inner fender.

21 year old plates? Do you mean someone has owned a '68 Coupe for the last 21 years?

I doubt it, but it would be refreshing! Obviously I ran the other vin and it said plate age 21. I found this highly suspect, and what are the chances of every thing matching but the first Letter/number and both being here in Houston? My title says AF01C170369. The only differance on the other one is the A is an 8, which would clear up this whole issue! This car has obviously been bought and sold at least 3-4 times. I want to give it back its identity!

It makes sense that a mistake was made and A and 8 sound similar.

Upon looking at your online album more closely, I see that you rims are painted argent - so they are the '68 rims! My bad! I guess I should have been wearing my glasses before.

You said the plates on the 8F01C were 21 years old. Are you thinking that someone at the DMV transcribed the registration on your car - wrong - 21 years ago?

What are your plans for this car? It looks like it's in really nice shape, except for the drivers seat upholstery/foam. Are you adding the aftermarket gauges in the photo? Your car bio said the car had AC. Do you have the components to install it?
