Now that you have the correct VIN for your car, you have to make sure the guy that sold you the car gives you a bill of sale with the correct VIN on it. Did he give you a title with the car? If yes, make sure the title has the correct VIN. Many states require a title for you to register the car. Make sure all the paper work is correct for the car before you begin pouring money into it

Your drivers door has been replaced and the Data Plate on it is for another car. Without the original Door Data Plate, the only way you can determine the original color is by looking in areas that are not normally repainted. You have to be a bit of a detective. Try looking in the door jam areas, in the trunk or pull out the rear seat and looking at the painted areas there.

Best to check with your local DMV office. Rules vary by state but I believe in a lot of states you can file something along the lines of a "salvage title" if all else fails....that could also include steps such as taking it to a highway patrol inspection site in some cases, depends on the state.

Does he have anything to prove he actually owned the car? Does he have a old registration for the car?

I bought a boat with a trailer a few years ago and the trailer had no papers. I was unable to get it registered, because the DMV would not accept a bill of sale because there was no proof the seller actually owned the trailer when he sold it to me. Your state DMV may or may not accept a bill of sale to register this car. You need go there and find out, before you spend any money on this car.

A Bill of Sale should look something like this:

Date of transaction

I John Q Public, of 1234 Main Street, Anytown, OK 12345, sell my 1966 Ford Mustang Coupe, VIN 6F07T305854, to Mr. brnc bstr87, of 4321 South Street, Anytown, OK 12345 for the sum of $600. I am transfering legal ownership of this vehicle to Mr. brnc bstr87and there are no leins on this car.

Signed Mr. John Q Public
Signed Mr. brnc bstr87

If you can obtain any prior registrations for this car, take them with you to the DMV.

When I got home today I went outside to try to hand crank the engine. At first it wouldn't budge so I took 2 spark plugs out (the rest were too tight and I didn't have any liquid loosener) to try to release some compression. I got back under there and turned it about 2-3 inches clockwise. Then the fan got in the way. Is that enough to see if the engine is locked up, or do I need to take the fan off and crank it all the way around?

I know you mentioned the bad gas thing, if you have it in your budget and you are able to confirm the engine isnt locked up, it may be worth it to just buy a new gas tank kit before you try to start the engine. No rust or gunk to suck into your carb. About $110. At least siphon out the old gas, dump tons of fresh gas and Seafoam in, and a new fuel filter.

Is there not a way too just disconnect the engine from the main gas line and pour a little gas in the engine to see if it will fire? I am going to get new spark plugs and wires before I do anything to try to start it. If I do fire it up from the engine bay, what wires do I need to touch together or to what?

Alright first off, Welcome here. Secondly, disconnect the fuel inlet line on ur pump(the one comin from the back of the car) clean the carb, check fluids and dizzy, then u can try it. I would keep the I6, beef it up, and it will be fun. Good luck.
