Not sure if it helps, but my title was wrong when I bought the car, and with a short explaination at the tax office they just fixed it. Texas is pretty decent if your story makes sense.

I had a similar issue with a car on Ebay. I put a bid and won the car and ended up putting a 500 dollar deposit on the car.

Based on the sellers description of the car and the photos that were provided I thought it was a decent car.

Boy did I mess that one up...

Went and checked out the car in person, and the car had so many problems that is wasn't even worth it to fix, frame rails were rusted pretty bad and bent - looked like the car got T-boned and they just fixed the body and left everything else. Exhaust was all rusted through in multiple places.

I brought a magnet with me to check for bondo and the thing wouldn't even stick to most of the car...

So I told the seller she wasn't getting the rest of the money and I'd be filing disputes with paypal and ebay. Worked out in my favor - I got my money back in 3 weeks and didn't get any negative feedback for backing out.

Turns out the seller got scammed 2 weeks later with a cashiers check scam, we send you a fake check for over the amount and you send us the difference and the car. So I didn't need to plot any revenge.
