Headlight Switch Removal
Hi,
How do I get the headlight switch out of a 73 mustang. The shop manual describes pushing a button through a hole in the dash and the switch comes right out.
There is no hole directly below my headlight switch, but I can get to a spring loaded button that is close to the edge of the dash on the switch housing. When I push the button, I can't seem to get the switch out.
Is it supposed to pop out? Or, am I supposed to unscrew the unit? I can't really see how the **** is going to pass through the dash opening without the bezel removed.
Thanks,
John

Ok do it right because I misread the directions and totally screwed up my headlight switch. If you feel behind the dash on the headlight switch there should be a small button, push that in and then the *** should pull out all the way. Once you have that **** out you can unscrew the middle piece with a big screwdriver or something. Unscrew that and then it should fall apart as it should since the front bezel and rear module are separated. Once you get the **** out it should be obvious what to do, but I was a dumbass and couldn't figure out what that little button did and tried to take it off other ways... wasn't gonna happen
oh and that's for a 69 of course, but it *should* be the same for yours

That sounds right. Makes sense too. I couldn't figure out haw that little button was going to disengage that huge assembly.
I will try it tomorrow and let you know.
Should I replace the switch anyway? It's been in there for 35 years. Are the new ones any good?
Thanks,
John

If it works don't replace it, but on the other hand the new one I got seems to be very good quality and works great. The dimmer on it is wonderful and it clicks nicely into the position which turns on the interior lights... I didn't even know my old switch could turn on the interior lights! (but I"m not sure if I ever tried... haha)

Well, my switch works great, so I guess I'll keep it. The restorer dude cracked the bezel somehow. So I'm trying to take it off so I can super glue the crack back together, then reassemble it.
Thanks,
