transmission question
i'm getting ready to drop the engine and transmission into my car. i got a new torque converter and flex plate. are c4 and cruise-o-matic transmissions the same thing? i believe i have a cruise-o-matic. anyhow, the new torque converter is smaller (10.5") than the one i pulled out and reading the instructions it stated to use this particualr converter on transmissions with a stepped bellhousing, not a flared bellhousing. they provided a picture of the differences and mine is indeed "stepped". so, am i fine using the new converter? are the new torque converters smaller than they were in the past? or did someone just put the wrong one in before?
thanks.
thanks.
Sometimes smaller converters were used to raise stall speeds. The down side was the amount of heat generated due to slippage. Chances are your new converter is more efficient, and may have a lower stall speed.
Good luck with the project!

i figured it out. thanks for the responses. i was able to bolt the tranny to the engine and drop in the engine today. here are some pics of the progress i've made thus far.
