Anybody else have this problem? 1966 starts great, runs great, but occasionally won't turn off. You can turn the ignition off, take out the key, and the car will still be running like is was before you tried to turn if off. This is not the kind of knocking, lurching but then shut down thing some cars do. Last time this happened to me I was starting it up and it got stuck while idiling very high. Had to disconnect the battery. Have had it to the 3 different shops, no answers. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!!!!!

Sounds like the switch itself. You're turning the key and removing it, but the contacts are still engaged.

Bad ignition switch.

What ignition are you running? Some MSD setups, if done incorrectly have this problem, IIRC.

Probably is the ignition switch but it could be an alternator or alternator wiring issue, a short from "battery side" to the "ignition side" of the switch.... or eve3n something else I can't think of right now...
