Whats the purpose of the sport lamps on the mach 1 etc? Is it just supposed to look cool? If thats it then they do look cool. Do they not put out any type of beam or what.

The 1970 lamps were controlled by a switch above the radio. The 71-72 was always on with the lights. Either way, looking cool was the goal, the lamps themselves were no brighter than the turn signal.
Thats odd. I would have thought that they would have made them more functional. I guess in bad weather it makes the car more visible to others.
Well, the early foglamps used double pole switches and clever wiring, so that when you turned on the fogs you also got the taillamps and instruments. I suppose the stylists took over later.
In 73, all Mustangs had the park/turn lamps in the grille, although the mach1 still had a special grille.
Actually, properly aimed 65-68 fog lamps can be a Godsend at night in the rain, if you actually drive the car. I used them at night constantly, when I drove the car regularly, which was over 20 years.
I found that out when I was driving through the mountains of Pennsylvania at night and my light switch crapped out. The fog lights were bright enough to allow me to keep going.
The fog lights are definitely brighter than I thought they would be since they aren't halogen.
When you get around to installing them on your car you do not have to drille a hole in the dash to mount the switch. I found a hole lower down on the bottom of the dash to the left of the brake handle that is the right size. The proper location is on the lower face of the dash, but I figured this is just about as good and doesn't require drilling a visible hole in the dash.
