Default Transmission question

Ok... As I said in another post, the shift linkage broke on me... while feeling around I came across something that confused me.

At the shift lever on the actual transmission, there is a lever right above the shift lever. It pulls down but then jumps right back up... it's not attached to anything. Have any Idea of what it might be?

Uh, yeah. That's the kickdown, when you floor the pedal it makes the trans shift down one gear. Makes your car much faster.

Look here where it says "automatic transmission" above the 289, 302, 351 caption.. The cable etc. is what you are missing:

Ah, I see. I'll admit I don't know much about transmissions. I know more about engines and even thus, this is my first classic car.

And as well, the previous owner disconnected a lot of stuff and didn't reconnect other stuff. So stuff not being connected makes it hard to know where stuff needs to BE connected.

Either way, Thanks for the info! Much appreciated.
