Default *Might get a 65 mustang but the title is lost

Hi,

I might get a project and its a good price but the title is lost, its not under his name and he has no bill of sell from previous owner but said he will make one, I know this sounds stolen but his story seems reasonable and its his house addresses, what can I do to register this under my name in ca, do I need to locate the original owner? if so I would probably avoid that.

Thank you

Get the VIN and call DMV. If the car is out of the system, it's pretty easy to get a new title, since DMV has no idea who owns the car anymore.

Google search something like "California car out of system new title".

There are also companies that will get a new title for a fee of about $200 with only a bill of sale.

But, before you do anything, get the VIN and have it checked.

If I go with him to the dmv what do I say? exactly,

here it says I need the owners info and he can locate the owner since he got it 7 years ago.

Have him explain how he got the car and would like to sell it to you. If it is ledit, he'll go, if he won't, run cuz there is something illegal with it! Good luck.

thanks guys, I would most likely do that first thing tomorrow, If I need to have a company get a title, I would most likely back out since it would make the deal not so slick.
