Default 302 swap question

Is it common for someone to swap a 1993 mustang gt 302 engine and transmission into a 1965 mustang coupe? Also swapping the factory electronic fuel injection with a 4 bbl carb?

I'm just curious because I was talking to someone that claims he did this to his 65 mustang, sorry for the newb question.

Very common, and not difficult at all. The motor is essentially the same, aside from the pan, timing cover, and front accessories, and you can strip off the EFI stuff and drop a carb and intake on it with no trouble.

Stripping the EFI and adding the carb, would that make it just as reliable?

EFI requires electric fuel pump and return system, and a stand-alone wiring and computer. Time and money. Putting a carb on the 5.0 is dead easy, and much less costly. I have started my carb'ed 289 when the snow was up to the door handles. If you have a manual transmission, you'll need a bracket for the equalizer (Z bar) where it attaches to the engine. Easy and inexpensive.

I am nearly done with my 90 gt 302 swap into a 65.
I bought a used 90 GT HO motor, I replace the timing chain, front main seal and rear main seal. I installed a front sump oil pan. I plugged the oil dipstick tube in the block with a wood dowel. I drilled a new dipstick tube hole on the passenger side of the late model timing chain cover and routed the dipstick tube behind the late model alternator. I kept the serpentine belt drive. I eliminated the AC and PS pump with a Trick Flow bracket that moves the belt tensioner to the driver side. I bought a used T5z tranny. I made my own tranny mount. I am now installing a MustangSteve clutch arm and clutch cable with the shaft bearing kit. (my car was an automatic)

I'll do a writeup soon when I get a little closer to completing the car.

Thats exactly what i am doing swapping from a 200 to a 5.0. I am keeping the efi stuff would be alot easier if I would of gone with a carb might of even been done with it. Efi is time consuming and a little frustrating. But I think I will enjoy it once it is done. Hopefully by the end of this year.

I have a 91 block in my 67. You either need the adapter bracket for clutch z-bar or go hydraulic(I went hydraulic). And either a fuel pressure regulator with a return, or if you pull the timing cover, just put the 2 piece fuel pump eccentric on the cam gear for a mechanical pump. Then you'll need a dizzy that doesn't run off a computer that has a steel gear to work with roller cams, MSD(since Crane went out of business) makes a fully digital setup with the dizzy, where you can select the mechanical and vacuum advance curves through a dial, and they're controlled electronically from inside the distributor. It also has a built in rev limiter. Then just swap intake/carb.

As you can see, it's a pretty common swap.
Check out my webpage for a few "how tos" on the subject.
