Default Local shop has scared me.

So, I went to see the local "Mustang Expert" shop in town. They told me that they don't use anything on the rear window. Just the rubber, no butile, nothing. The so-called mustang experts say they do lots of window. But, I'm a little unsure of them now.

Another shop that I've used in the past said that they would use either butile or urathane. I may insist on butile.

If something is worth doing...its worth doing right....it should be painfully obvious now that you are the expert!! This thread contains everything you need to get it right..I say go for it.

I suggest you call Glazier Nolan. They have been restoring Mustangs over 30 years. Fred Glazier still owns the Mustang he bought in April 1964, and is one of the original MCA Gold Card judges. Call and ask them about sealing the rear window.

Default Rope Trick

I've heard people refer to something called the rope trick when it comes to installing a rear window. What is that trick?

Thanks,

John

install the rubber on the glass and then take a rope like the pull start rope on your lawnmower and place it in the gap in the rubber where the metal window frame fits into. Then have some one place the glass onto the frame. Then one person on the inside of the car pulls the rope which spreads the lip open and over the metal frame. The guy on the outside presses on the glass gently to help it seat.

The simple idea is the the rope forces the rubber lip open and over the frame making install very easy.
