Default cigarette lighter

Ok, here's another dumb question...
I cant test mine bc its hasnt come in the mail yet.. but is a cigarette lighter also used as a power port?? Or is there such a thing to upgrade?

My dads got a 90'something truck that has a lighter and power port separate which is why I ask..

Id like to plug in a cell charger if possible

I use mine as a power port. Works fine for my phone and my GPS unit.

Several Ford accessories used a jumper plug to add on to the cigar lighter.

once you have a functioning cigarette lighter socket, you can use it as 'power port' for charging your mobile. However if it's an early car make sure it's fused properly.
all chargers using this have another fuse in the plug itself, but I found that my 64 was either wired wrong by PO, or it wasn't fused from factory

My wife frequently uses the lighter socket for her phone charger, and I've used the lighter socket for running things like 12-v tire pumps and inverters (to keep a laptop running continuously and even to operate a 3/8" drill). IOW, there's plenty of 12-v power there, and I don't think a cellphone charger really draws that much anyway.

Any separately marked "Power" port is marked mostly for convenience, though it might not be the best idea to plug the lighter itself into a Power port.

in "new" cars typically, the lighter is on the key, and power port is all time hot....
I should know where all time hot is when i'm constantly installing GPS units in cars financed by the dealership i work at. =/
