Default Valve question

Im installing my heads back on my 289 tomorrow, My question is. My block is a 289 but I have 302 heads. So which specs do I go off of for the valve clearance?

Oh, and I blew all the antifreeze out of the water passages of the block that I could to get any debree out. before I put the heads back on do I need to fill those back up somehow? Any other tips for putting everything on feel free.

Not sure I understand, the 289 and 302 were nearly identical. The question now is, what 302 heads do you have? Later 302 heads had a rocker stud with a "step", and you simply installed the nut until the nut got to the step. If yoou do not have the step, the valves are adjusted in exactly the same manner as 289.

Do not put coolant in the engine. Do that when it's completely assembled. Use a genuine Ford thermostat, (190°) which has the air bleed to make filling the coolant easy.
