Default Flywheel installation question

This is probably stupid, but when I took the old flexplate off my engine (converting to manual w/T5) there was a ring under the bolt heads. It's one big ring with the 6 bolt holes. I wasn't sure at the time if it was a shim or just a washer surface as I dropped it while removing. One side has score marks like bolt head have been tightened against it, but I can't see any reason for it.

Was this a factory part? Is it used for auto, manual, or both?

Any help appreciated.

It's a washer. Auto trans only.

Thanks, I'm putting the clutch together and didn't want to put it in if I wasn't supposed to. I'll toss it in the old parts bin.
