1966 Master Cylinder

1966 Master Cylinder
My newly acquired mustang has the manual rear drums and front disc brake setup. It needs a new Master Cylinder. I read somewhere that I should change from the stock single resevoir to a dual reservoir setup. Can someone provide advice including why you made (or didn't make) the change and if changed, the parts you used?
Thanks much in advance!

You absolutely should change to a dual MC for peace of mind. If your single reservoir fails you have no backup. I have the same setup as you and put in a new master cylinder for a '74 Maverick, I believe it cost me about $20. It works great and was an easy install, just needed a washer spacer and all was well. You'll also need to install a proportioning valve.

The 74 Maverick Front Disc, Rear drum, MANUAL Disc master has the internal clip ring machining to retain/keep the push rod in from falling out.
The Power Disc Masters do not, the push rod has no means to keep the push rod retained in the piston.
The original push rod , with clip, will function fine.
One more bit of info---Install a New Master, not a used, rebuild?? With unknown internal faults you won't know about till you need it.

I am in the same boat. I bought a 65 mustang but the owner put a dual master cylinder in from a 67 or 68 mustang I believe but did not hook it up. He gave me the distribution block but I still need to get some brake lines made up to connect it all.
