Default Pwr steering question

Any advice on how to smooth out the power steering on a 69 302 coupe? It is very "jumpy", especially when cold. Seems to be worse when turning to the right. The resistance feels normal partway through a turn, then it's like the wheel just snaps to the right. I don't notice it so much after driving the car for a few minutes.

Maybe the wrong pwr steering fluid? level too low? Air in the system?

What color is the fluid?

Clear. basic Prestone. Initially I listened to someone who said it should be filled with auto trans fluid (like the dipstick said). That ate up the seals in the valve. I'm sure it's not the original valve.

OK, clear, generic "power steering fluid" is not good for your system. Flush it out and fill it with Type F transmission fluid like it's supposed to have.

And I said Type F, not "Dexron/Mercon".

Are you sure that won't eat the seals again? If I used Dexron/Mercon the first time would that have caused the seal problem?
