Ya my whole valvetrain is pretty noisy. But if you hear a distinct ticking it's either lifter or leak at exhaust or spark plug. Try with the screwdriver or dowel. If it's a lifter you will be able to pinpoint. Exhaust leak has a distance little pff with it. But you have to have heard both to be able to tell it apart

I dunno...from my experiance if you have a lifter that won't hold pressure its louder then a tick. How loud/violent is this tick?

My engine sounds like a sewing machine/deisel. Though it is quieter with the custom cam, Ed Curtis knows how to design aggressive cams that pick the valve up and set it down rather gently.

well i started her up and let her warm up. I revved it a few times and at first you could hear the lifter a little bit and then not really at all. So im not to worried about it. I noticed though my timing is off a bit. I have it advanced quite a bit which makes the car run better in terms of no stumbling or bogging down but it does miss a bit which is noticeable from my turn down exhaust. I can feel it. Any suggestions>?

99% the advance and the miss are two separate issues.

Assuming you mean it is missing on one (or more) cylinder(s), (as opposed to random across the board misses) pull the plugs to determine which plug(s) is/are misfiring.

It should be obvious which ones are firing and missing, this will give you a heads up on the troubleshooting.

So i can hear the ticking more when i accelerate which basically correlates to the RPM's. Higher the RPM's the louder. Its not severely loud but i can hear it. I got a stethoscope to try and pin point it but it feels like a needle in a hay stack. Everywhere i move it it sounds the same i can hear a ticking sound but cant exactly pin point it.
