Newly Rebuilt 302, Ticking sound
#12
Ya my whole valvetrain is pretty noisy. But if you hear a distinct ticking it's either lifter or leak at exhaust or spark plug. Try with the screwdriver or dowel. If it's a lifter you will be able to pinpoint. Exhaust leak has a distance little pff with it. But you have to have heard both to be able to tell it apart

well i started her up and let her warm up. I revved it a few times and at first you could hear the lifter a little bit and then not really at all. So im not to worried about it. I noticed though my timing is off a bit. I have it advanced quite a bit which makes the car run better in terms of no stumbling or bogging down but it does miss a bit which is noticeable from my turn down exhaust. I can feel it. Any suggestions>?

Assuming you mean it is missing on one (or more) cylinder(s), (as opposed to random across the board misses) pull the plugs to determine which plug(s) is/are misfiring.
It should be obvious which ones are firing and missing, this will give you a heads up on the troubleshooting.

So i can hear the ticking more when i accelerate which basically correlates to the RPM's. Higher the RPM's the louder. Its not severely loud but i can hear it. I got a stethoscope to try and pin point it but it feels like a needle in a hay stack. Everywhere i move it it sounds the same i can hear a ticking sound but cant exactly pin point it.
