You're absolutely right to come to that conclusion with the stock steel fans. Those fans do work fine but they aren't efficient. They dont put a HUGE draw on the engine but they are a 100% wasted energy above 10 mph and the faster and longer you go the more they waste and the more practical a modern solution becomes.

Don't rule out a clutch fan they are a fine choice as well especially if you want to keep wires to a minimum. If you do go electric make sure you get the good stuff dont try to save a few bucks on some POS system.

I hear spal makes some good electric fans...might want to look into those.

I am not arguing at all against clutch fans they are great. I just think that electric fans are typically a needless mod that the time and money could have been spent on better things. If you need the clearance or every possible ounce of hp to lower your lap times then yes. However if you are putting them in to keep your car from over heating then you need to figure out what is wrong with your system not try and cover it up.

With mechanical you have a shroud and fan to go bad
With a clutch fan you have a fan, shroud and clutch to go bad
With elec you have fan(s), motors, case, wiring, fuse, relays, temp sensor(if you did it right), more draw on your alternator

Thats more just possibilities for murphy to say hi.
