Turbo would get you an extra 100 hp and you wouldn't have to do all the other stuff.

Youd just have to update the fuel system depending on boost amount. Keeping it under 10 psi would allow you to keep the stock internals. Then you would need an electric fuel pump and a nitrophyl float so that it doesn't crush under the pressure.

IIRC, you can get a new one for about $1200. Rebuilt for less. Even decent used ones can be found. Installation cost depends what you have now. If the car already has a manual trans, that makes it easier and cheaper. If you have an auto trans, you'll need to get the clutch and bellhousing items, too.

If you google ford straight six performance or ford 200 straight six there are several sites with loads of information.

Wouldn't it be cheaper and easier to put in a V8?

No, because a V8 would require replacing the engine, transmission, driveshaft, rear axle, front and rear brakes, steering linkage, exhaust system, fuel lines, cooling system, engine wiring, and some other stuff I forget.

That's not cheaper OR easier.

In 1965, the 200 was offered with the 2.77 3-speed manual standard, optional transmissions were the C4 automatic, and the 4-speed fully-synchronized Dagenham manual transmission. The 65 200 could also be ordered with the 3.50:1 rear axle ratio, and Equalock limited-slip differential.
