Default original type alt for 5.0 swap in '66?

Ok, after much searching I have come up empty. I am installing a carbureted 5.0/t-5 into my '66. I am keeping the serpentine belt setup. What I am looking for is a period correct alternator to use that puts out a bit more power (maybe around 75 amps). I am not interested in a modern 130-170 amp or a one-wire unit as I have no power accessories to worry about. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks, JR

There are alternators available that will bolt in to early Mustangs that provide 75 or more amps. Dunno if they'll work with the serpentine system. Why are you keeping that?

Can't say on Ford, but with many GM alternators, you can simply change the pulley from V-Belt to serpentine. I have done this more than once.

I have a feeling you can probably do this on at least some Ford alternators.

Most of the issues I have had with this in the past is that the case won't always bolt to the stock serpentine bracket, but if you have reasonable fabrication skills, this can be overcome easy enough by modifying the mounts.

Because the '89 5.0 I'm using came with all the serpentine pulleys and I figure it would look cool. Also, I believe the water pump is a reverse rotation.

If all else fails I guess I could swap to a early model water pump and scrounge up some v-belt pulleys.

IMO staying with the serpentine setup is going to be the path of least resistance for you, I would probably stay with it also.

Frankly, most folks would consider the 5.0 alternator that fits your serpentine setup an upgrade, why not use it?

I don't have it or the idler. Also I heard the 5.0 alternator has external voltage regulator which I would need to wire up? Not sure how difficult that is.

I bought a 140 amp PowerMaster Alternator for my 5.0 carburated motor a couple of years ago and it's worked without any problems at all. I had my cousin wire it for me so I got rid of the voltage regulator. Best thing I ever did.
It comes with both pulleys so you can run a supentine belt or the original V-Blet which is what I went with on mine.
