Default Steering sector issues, 68 cougar

Hello , nephew has a 68 cougar project car that has sat for 15 years, and the power steering was not connected as hoses had been burned up by headers. We Putin all new hoses and put on a belt, added 1.5 qt. of oil and when we start the engine the steering wheel whips back and forth like crazy. Now steering is impossible unless we take off the belt and the return hose. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Sounds like there is either air in the system or your control valve is bad. They can be rebuilt pretty cheaply, especially if you DIY

Too easy. The two short hoses going from the valve to the power cylinder are reversed. Disconnect them from the cylinder and swap them.

That was it! Switched the two small hoses and it works now! Thanks!
