Default dealer tie downs

i have a pair of the original dealer tie downs that were "supposed" to be removed upon arrival of the car, but like many others, never where. I have held off putting them back on because i havent yet found the answer as to what color they are supposed to be. I have heard from a fellow mca member, lee nelson, that they were supposed to be natural. I think this might be true becuase they are surface rusty and pitted. My dads 68 gt390 has them but were red oxide when he pulled them off. My car did come from the factory with red oxide, so im wondering if different plants did different things. San jose:red oxide, red oxide tie downs Dearborn: black underside, natural tie downs, Muntchen(or however its spelled):black underside, natural. Like i said in the past, im going for concourse, so ive left these off until there correct color.
thanks everyone

I have no idea, so can't help you. That's one of those dust on the spare tire questions. However, you are probably aware that some plants used buck tags, and some didn't. So, I don't see how having a tie down in the right color would be a judging factor, since not all have tie downs from the factory.

i found out the answer to the question, I got on the phone with my buddy rod holland, he asured me that lee was right to an extent. They did come from the factory in a natural finish, however, depending on which plant it came from, it should have a little bit of overspray from when they layed down that nice lead based paint so many years ago. I guess i should have seen that the pitting is only in certain areas, which the overspary protected.

also i checked the rule book on the tie downs, they are ownly judged if they are there, not to loose in points if not. And it only showed for concourse trailered....you would think all would have them if trailered.....nice extra tie downs to lug it around lol!!
