No dash lights, no crank
87 Mustang GT. Was replacing the notoriously splitting ignition switch, Popped new one in the electrical plug, reconnected battery cable, tested the switch by sliding it through its positions.with a screwdriver and all went well. Even got the thing started, Congratulating myself, I then went and mounted the switch back on the column, turned the key expecting the same as before but then got nothing. No instrument lights on the dash, no chimes, and no crank even. I removed the switch from the column, thinking it was just an issue with the pin/actuator rod, but when I used the screwdriver on it as I did before- to my dismay- I still got nothing.
Thought I might have blown a fuse somehow but all ones in the fuse box by my knee were all were fine, I pulled the switch off its connector and tested all terminals on the plug for power (I'm assuming there should be power at at least wire). but none was present.
Would any kind soul here know what the heck happened? I jumped the connection at the starter solenoid just to make sure the battery and starter were okay, and it cranked just fine. If this info help at all, I did notice the headlights still work as does the dimmer switch
