Default which one sould i get?

hi all ive been offered a 66 mustang for $1,500 with a v8 289 auto, hard top and also not fastback or shelby came from hawiia(sorry cant spell the best) so it has like no rust but needs new doors and intioror which ill be buying off here if i get it.
also i have a buddy who has a 86 convertable v6 3.6 i belive and its auto great body for $1,800.
which one will be better?
im thinking that the 86 would be nice to cruse around in but the 66 will have power and guys not girls will like it more tho a 66 is a nice car to have a to be a first build up of a classic.
the car i buy will be a all summer car so ether or it will not be titled as a classic!
btw i want the car to have power like a little more than factory so ill be doing mods to it right off the bat, but one thing i dont like is auto so where could i get a manule tranny for her? also front disc brake conversion if i go with the 66?
thanx for any replies, ive never owned a ford so tell me what i should be looking for on ether car also this will be my first musle car!
also last but not least one of my co-workers told me the car will lose value if i change it to a manule or put a bigger engine into it is this true? i dont belive so!
once agin thanx im new to fords and older cars i drive a 93 geo storm as of right now!

if some of u may notice this post was done before in the newbie part but i wasent getting much feed back so i put it into here.

if it was me, i would go for the 1966 coupe. Forget the fox body, classic mustangs are where the better investment will be. Yes you can put a manual tranny and it could possibly even help the value of the 1966....but not the newer car. From the factory, autos cost a bit more...thats just how it is, but for a classic muscle car thats sporty people generally find a manual more exciting and generally more fun to drive.

I would never get a V6....or I6....or anything less than a V8 for that matter for a mustang. Muscle car is synonomous with V8.

And as for the chick magnet factor....I PROMISE the 1966 will attact more chicks than a 80's 6 banger mustang. Just get it cleaned up and looking cool on the outside and they will be all over it like a fly on sh*t. Trust me.

And even though yo ucould add a bigger engine without hurting the value of the car...i just wouldnt....no real point in switching out the original V8....you can get bolt on things and make it one BAD *** camaro killer. Front disc brakes would be fantastic for the 1966 coupe.

oh and one last thing......make sure to drive the GEO off a cliff after you buy the 66 coupe! have fun!!

ya, the 66 is better. i hate the 80's models. make me want to cry. i have a '00 V6 but still, the power of 8 is so much better.

66 gets my vote. Easier to work on and most likely exempt from smog regs in your area.
