Default problems with new exhaust :|

Ok, so I got the old set off easy, but I am having a hard time fitting the new headers in.
Its a 66 coupe, (headers car specific) original 289.
I didn't drive the drivers side yet but the passengers side was giving me problems before I had a chance to work on the drivers side (got to late to be working) anyway its impossible to go in through the top, and through the bottom it was hitting the shield for the trany dipstick but would have gone if it wasn't in the way... anybody go through the same thing and know how to get them in without breaking something?

that is what I'm trying to fit in. any help would be great...
(yes Santa came early this year)

Yeah but mine was on the driver side.

the trick is to loosen the motor mount so it is detached from the frame then slide your jack under there and set a 2x4 on it that slides up to the bolts on the oil pan then jack the engine up until you have enough room.

If its going to require a lot then perhaps loosing the engine mount on the other side might be necessary as well.

Using this method you can score 4-6 inches of extra space real easy maybe as much as 8 but that’s starting to add undue stress to other parts.

There is a bolt that holds the dipstick in place to the block. take that bolt out and then you will be able to move it out of the way.

Ok so the bolt to the dipstick worked and I didn't have to take any motor mounts off... but the kit from header back that I bought was the wrong one so I'm having to do some fabrication now but is it ok.
Question, is it ok for me to put my bracket for hanging the exhaust on the bolt that goes through the leaf spring? because the instructions call for drilling some hols in the floor pan and I'm not up to hurting my car any more then I have to.
oh yeah, I started it up with just the headers on and it sounded AWESOME!!!
