Default Running Hot

I have a 67 with a 289, 2 bbl.It hasbeen heating up way fast even when the outside temperture is 28 degrees. I'll drive around the block and the radiator will be way hot, sometimes if i drive it for a while it will pop the cap and boil over. I just replaced the water pump today and it still heats up fast. I replaced the thermostat a few months ago. Radiator looks like its not clogged. Any ideas or suggestions on what to do, or whats wrong with it?

Sounds like a head gasket. do a compression test. After a comp test if ok run engine and feel the front of rad top to bottom rad could be plugged. Lower hose might be collapsing too.</P>

yea i'd start by checking to see if your leaking anywhere. then check your hoses, and look at your coolant and see if it's an abnormal color. then check for compression. there's a million reasons why your car could overheat like that. water pump, heater core, head gasket, bad hose etc.....ive got a leak right now. a tiny hole in my intake manifold is allowing just a teeny bit of coolant to ooze out.

It cant be a heater core unless it has a hole in it. I would say it is the head gasket.

Ithought it might be the head gasket, but the coolant looks very clean, no smoke in exhaust, and oil looks clean. I'm thinkin it might be a bad thermostat even though its new, but I don't know. The last thing I wanna do is change a head gasket.

I think that it is the medium one, like 180 degrees I think. I can't quite remember.

yeah that should be fine i would have to say its a headgasket, or your hoses collapsing unless the thermostat is bad again.
