Default Water pump quere

Does anyone know the approx. H/P loss when using the OEM water pump for a 80's GT 5.0? Thanks.

Well with an aftermarket pump you might gain a little but nothing noticeable, with an aftermarket pump things will run cooler.... There isn't a huge gain in hp switching from stock to aftermarket... Just mainly temp change.... So with the OEM your not lossing HP..

Unless you've got a full race engine or close to that I wouldn't worry about the stock one as long as it's working fine.

at high engine speeds, the water pump can use up about 15 HP from the engine. that's why a lot of racers switch over to an electric pump to get the most HP to the wheels at the track. it's also one reason for underdrive pulleys as they slow down the pump so it don't use up so much HP at higher speeds.
