4K RPM & That's It...normal??

4K RPM & That's It...normal??
When I am at a dead stop and reving my engine, i get up to 4000 RPM before the engine kind of stutters...I don't know how else to desribe it. When I am driving, I can get over 4000 RPM with no problem. Is this "stuttering" normal? If so, why?

It only goes up to 4 thousand and kind of bounces? You probably have a 2 step rev limited that limites your rpms to 4000 when you arnt moving and then at a higher rpm like 6500 when you are moving.

^^^that's what i was thinking but we need more info on the car....never heard of someone not knowing they have a two step, but if he bought the car already modded it's possible. do you have a msd ignition, sct chip, or stand alone?

i know of cars that have a low rev limiter while the car is in park then when its in drive it will go to redline. This is only in automatics and I believe it was my friends Ranger that did that.
