PLEASE HELP....I HAVE A MOTOR QUESTION
I have a 99 v6 mustang I changed the oil and filter in it, when I took the old filter off I did not pay attention that the old o ring was still on the car. I put the new filter on and with both o ring's on the car the filter did not seal. I drove the car 5 min's before I knew what was going on, when I got where I was going I herd some thing rattling in the motor so I had the car towed back home. When I got the car home I change the oil and filter the right way this time and then started the car the rattle stopped after a secound or two. I have been driving the car for I would say 3 or 4 day's and when I got home I herd the rattle again. I was woundering can some one tell me what I need to do or is there something I can put in with the oil to stop the noise.

RE: PLEASE HELP....I HAVE A MOTOR QUESTION
You probably ran the engine too low on oil and may have caused permanent damage.
First thing to check would be the oil level. If it's full, your engine will need significant repairs.

RE: PLEASE HELP....I HAVE A MOTOR QUESTION
The 3.8 is a pretty tough motor, but it does not respond well to low oil, In all honesty, you are looking at a crank kit in the least, it is one of the unfortunate weak link in our motors. It always has been in the essex 3.8l V6.

Change the oil again (just drain it) and see if there are any metal pieces. You could go so far as to drop the oil pan and inspect the main bearings as well as remove the valve covers and inspect teh valve train.
