I have a 1998 Mustang Gt which I just recently bought from a private dealer. It just rolled over to 100,000 miles when the transmission started acting up. Whenever I try to engage 1st gear it pops out immedietly. Also 3rd gear will grind every time i try to engage it aswell. 2nd, 4th, 5th, and reverse all work totally fine. I was wondering if the problem would be the syncros or anything related to that or do i have a more serious problem on my hands. Also I have 3.73 gears and a short shifter and i was wondering if these may be a factor to the problem aswell. Thanks.

what short shifter?

Im not sure but your short shifter stops may need adjustments.....may look into that

also could be a bent shift fork or syncro's

id check the short shirfter stops and if u have the stock shifter install it and see how it goes...

+1 The adjustable stops can work their way loose and cause this very kind of problem.

It was the short shiffter, i replaced it with the stock one and it works like a charm, thanks a ton for the help.

What brand ss is it? I will take it off your hands if you are planning on selling it.

It's a Roll-X shifter. Interested?? I would sell it cheap.
