Help from all you mustang guru's
I own a 1984 mustang gt, the first problem I have is that when the headlights are on high beams they stay on for a few minutes then turn off, then in a few minutes turn back on... Its crazy but it is getting old driving at night with only low beams.
The second question I have is when the car is running you can hear a winding noise in the brake booster. And when I pick up the brake pedal it stops. I was told that the brakes need to be bled and it will stop. What do you think?
Thank you for all your help...

Check relay for high beams, it could be old and sticking, you could swap it with some other similar relay you have in there. As far as brakes go, bleed them, and see what happens. (you will need a can with brake fluid, and hose which you stick into the can and duck tape, do as described in the book)

agreed
check relay
2nd the brake booster has a leak if its hissing
time for a new one
does the brakes work well or do they feel odd in anyway such as u have to push them down harder to get em to stop more then usuall?

Not to show my ignorance but what did you mean by (you will need a can with brake fluid, and hose which you stick into the can and duck tape, do as described in the book)... What book... Also the brakes work, I do have to pump them sometimes to stick hard, but the thing that throws me off is that it stops hissing when I pick up the brake pedal... Thanks so far. Oh yeah, does anyone know where the relay to the headlights is? Or how I can find it... thanks a lot...

The headlight switch overheating can cause the lights to go on/off as well.
As for the 'winding' noise, do you mean whistling? If so, the vacuum line to your booster is leaking. Just replace it. If that isn't the problem, it's time for a new booster. I would consider upgrading to the hydraboost off the newer Stangs if that's the case.

RE: Help from all you mustang guru's
The way to bleed brakes is you attach a hose to bleed valve, and insert it into a clear can filled with brake fluid. You bleed the brakes and watch the hose for air bubbles, when air bubbles are not coming out anymore, the brakes a bled. Most people dont attach hose, and allow brake fluid just to drip all over. Such method allows for air to enter the system when you close the valve, so it is useless to bleed the brakes that way.
As far as book, Haynes, Chiltons, any book available at parts store. You can also get some info on how to bleed brakes at www.autozone.com repair section.
