tranny causing stalling?
Guys,
Automatic transmission when shifted is causing the car to almost stall out, when in gear runs strong as usual, between gears or changing gears the motor nearly dies. What would cause this? The car is at a complete standstill when this happens, I'm at a loss...

Something sticking in the valvebody maybe, causing it to act like its in two gears at once, possibly even partially engaging reverse, very rare, but I have seen it happen, just not on a Ford yet, more prevelent on GM's
thanks, it on the wifes '02 Ford Explorer, I'm gonna get the tranny flushed and filled and hope that alleviates any stress on the valve body... hope it works... ahhhh
The tranny solenoid packs are known to be weak in these trannies. I'm 90% certain for that year...basically, if you don't have a dipstick, you have the problematic tranny. Otherwise, a flush and fill may be the cure. While you're under there, consider an external filter to really help the tranny live longer, as well as synthetic fluid like Amsoil.

Archion, Colorado, thanks I am definitely getting it refilled with pure synthetic fluid, and I'm gonna look into that additive also. Thanks Guys! I'll have to check on the dipstick.. can't remember, this is the first problem we've had with it.
