A MSD burns all of the fuel and can run a motor lean so I am told.

Don't that kill a diesel? Thats why they have glow plugs.
that destroys deisels. and bad turbo bushings/bearings puking oil into the intake. if you see black smoke on a deisel that is unburned fuel. glow plugs are used to heat up the air so it burns better. they are compression ignition, no sparkplugs or ignition system, and the hotter the air the better the burn. a turbo deisel will have a compression of at least 16:1, a non-turbo 20-28:1

white smoke is a bad thing check your oil cap on valve cover look at the bottom and hope its not white/gray because that is exactly what happend to me i blew a head gasket.

Glow plugs heat it up to 180F when you start it and when it cold (when you 1st start it) on some trucks.
